Franklin's Political contributions started when he moved to England for a time as a Colonial Representative. At first he fell in love with the city, but as time went on and he uncovered all the corruption behind the fan fair, he became disillusioned. He made a clean break with England and began to focus his efforts on America's Independance. Franklin was elected to the Second Continental Congress and served on the committee of five who were responsible for drafting the Declaration of Independance. Shortly after he sailed to France and became an ambassador to the court of Louis the XVI, where this widower was reputed as a notorious flirt and loved by all. It was this great popularity that encouraged the French to sign the Treaty of Alliance with the Americans in 1778. Franklin continued to be a political force for good and justice up until his death on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84. He is often remembered today not only for the great inventions and contributions to the early Declarations of Freedom in our country but also for his quick quips and witticisms such as, " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
